Founder of Prince Amechi Michael Properties, Prince Amechi Michael, has spoken of how he rose from ashes to become a successful real estate player in Nigeria’s growing real estate sector.
The trajectory of Prince Amechi Michael reflects his perseverance, tenacity and determination to, alongside other industry pioneers, carry the burden to build a formidable sector now worth hundreds of billions of naira and ultimately bridge the accommodation deficit for Nigerians.
The Prince Amechi Michael Propertities owner, who is from Otuocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, is the fourth of seven children born by his parents. His father, who was an engineer, could not cater to all the needs of the household and consequently, he came to Lagos with his older brother in the 1990s. The entrepreneur worked briefly in a supermarket before making an adventure into the property business in 1998.
Prince Amechi Michael attended Usi Primary School in Benin City, where he was born and raised. He attended Okota Secondary School in Lagos, and later went to febilac to continue his education. He could not further his studies immediately after his secondary education, due to lack of funds or sponsorship. However, the businessman later bagged a degree in Business Administration, from the Lagos State University (LASU).
“My brother and my brother started the business far back as 1998 – 2000, but there wasn’t any money so we started from retail rentals and stone coat roofing and also installation of water connectors. My father was a civil engineer and I think that was where I got my knowledge from, my brothers are all into real estate and we’re as well developers”, Amechi Michael said in an interview with reporters.
Speaking on his experience as a property investor, he said he has garnered a lot under his belt.
“I have learnt a lot, especially building houses that are not affordable, properties like that are always very difficult to to sell and also mistakenly buying lands with issues, or getting land that doesn’t have good title. So things like this are what I have learnt not to get myself attached with.
“Every business have profit but it’s dependent on the strategy you use, that’s what will determine your profit, if you spend your time building luxurious houses it will be very difficult to sell compare to building a normal affordable house.
“I have been giving a lot of awards. I have an ‘Honorary Doctorate in Real Estate Management & Outstanding Excellence Award & Inspirational Leadership Honors in West Africa’, ‘Yoruba Youth Humanitarian Icon Of The Year’, ‘Umuada Aguleri Mba Worldwide Patron Award’, EECOWAS Youth Personality Of The Year, and many others I cannot remember,” Prince Amechi Michael added.
