Nyesom Wike remains my principal, says Governor Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, remains his principal regardless of the recent political crisis that rocked the state.

Fubara described the feud between him and Wike as a thing of the past, stressing that he never recruited anybody to malign any person.

The governor stated this, yesterday, in Port Harcourt at the opening of 2023/2024 legal year rededication service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Hospital Road.

Rivers was in crisis between October 29 and 30, 2023, when Wike, through the House of Assembly, reportedly attempted to impeach Fubara over alleged failure to comply with his demands.

But yesterday, Fubara urged Rivers people to put behind them the discomfort created by the political tension experienced days ago and join his administration to ensure continuous peace and development in the state.

“We have a mission to give you development. We also know that the devil will always come in, one way or another. But the important thing is for us to identify it and push the devil out of our road, so that we can continue.

“So, I thank you for your support and say that we need peace. Everybody should just relax and realise that we need peace to progress in the state, which is only possible in the atmosphere of tranquility.”

He commended Rivers’ people for their support and prayed that they continue giving their unalloyed support to his government to succeed.

A statement by Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Boniface Onyedi, noted that the governor pledged N50 million to launch a book entitled, History of Rivers State Judiciary, A Compendium of Personalities on the Bench.

In his sermon, Bishop of the Diocese of Niger Delta, Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, said the spirit of fear needed to be overcome by firm trust in God and urged the judicial officers to uphold the truth fearlessly in the discharge of their duties.
