The event, which was the first turbaning and merit award of the society, featured the group’s yearly Maolud Nabiy and fundraising for the group mosque.
Speaking at the turbaning and award ceremony, Deputy President, Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti, said the award was conferred with the title, owing to his philanthropist engagement in the society.
He advised the awardees to live up to expectations with a positive legacy, as recipients of noble titles are role models.
Remarking on his award, the newly turbaned Saraki Adinni of JAMPAG, Alhaji Rafiu, commended the group for finding him worthy of the title. He said: “Bear in mind this is purely an honorific title. So, I am circumscribed by what the leadership deems appropriate for me to do. However, I will be available to support the mosque and Dawah group in what they require in furthering the group’s aims and objectives and as far as I am able.”
He also promised to ensure that the group activities are open and accessible to the wider community as a community asset. “For me, this is one way of inviting non-Muslims to see what Islam is from the inside. Beyond having a madrasa for the young and teenagers to learn the Qur’an and Hadith, it will be good to see the mosque organise regularly, other programmes and activities that are not strictly religious, to address the needs of the young which can also serve as avenues to unleash their boundless energies and tackle indolence and anti-social behaviour. All these and more are possible, Insha Allah.”
Retired civil servant, Alhaja Fauziyah Ogunniyi, congratulated Alhaji Rafiu on his well-merited award and title, urging him to continue with his philanthropic activities. “He is up and doing when it comes to helping humanity and the community. He played a prominent role in the development of our organisation. His kind gesture has been emulated by a lot of his colleagues. He doesn’t discriminate.”
She however urged Nigerians to emulate the act of giving back to the society. “Giving back to society is beyond financial support. You can engage in developing or counselling people. Today, a lot of people are under pressure.”
