Former Super Falcons captain, Desire Oparanozie, has called on Nigerians to vote for Asisat Oshoala so the latter can win the women’s category of the 2023 Globe Soccer Award.
Oparanozie who recently retired from football for both club and country took to her X handle late Sunday night to solicit votes on behalf of her former teammate, Oshoala.
As of the time of this report, Oshoala is third with only 9% of the votes, Linda Caicedo is second with 9.4% while Aitana Bonmati leads the way with 46.6%.
“Hello Nigerians, this isn’t us at all. How is our girl @asisat oshoala not on top of the table?,” the retired striker posted.
“Here is your direct link to vote. Let it rain. Let’s go! https://vote.globesoccer.com/vote/best-women-player-2023/?embed=false.”
The duo of Nigeria internationals, Victor Osimhen and Oshoala were nominated for the 2023 Globe Soccer Award.
Osimhen will battle 29 other players in the men’s category while Oshoala will slug it out with 19 other players in the women’s category.
The Globe Soccer Awards are organised by the European Club Association (ECA) in conjunction with the European Association of Player’s Agents (EFAA).
The award ceremony has always taken place in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The first meeting was held in 2009, but the first prizes were not awarded until 2010, with three being awarded.
In 2011, the number of awards and categories was increased, reaching up to six while the 2012 edition delivered a larger number, reaching ten football-related categories.
