Court orders remand of two men over alleged possession of firearm

Two men, Femi Olufade and Abdulateef Umaru, were arraigned before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, yesterday, for alleged armed robbery and possession of a double-barreled gun.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Oyindamola Ogala on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, robbery, and armed robbery.

Prosecuting counsel, Uju Nwogazi, told the court that the defendants conspired to commit the offences on April 13, 2021, along Owode Apapa Road in the Badagry area of Lagos State.

She told the court that the defendants, while armed with a locally made pistol, robbed one Babangida Abass of his motorcycle with number plate EKY 620 UM. She said the defendants were found in possession of a cut-to-size double-barreled shotgun with six cartridges.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provision of Sections 411, 296, and 297 (a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges and the prosecutor asked the court to adjourn for a trial date.

Ogala ordered the defendants to be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service and adjourned the case till February 19, 2024, for trial.
