National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, (NCFRMI), has said that it is making moves to leverage youth migration for national development taking advantage of the Rabat process.
Honourable Commissioner, NCFRMI, Aliyu Ahmed, made this known during a press briefing on the National Migration Dialogue themed ‘Leveraging Youth Migration for National Development’, holding today at the Presidential villa in commemoration of the International Migrants Day, yesterday in Abuja.
He said this year’s national dialogue is will focus on addressing challenges of migration, it’s benefits and how the youth can explore that as a platform for national development.
“Nigeria recently co-chaired a thematic meeting of the Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development, (the Rabat process) which held in the Hague, Netherlands, leading the conversation of harnessing youth migration for national development and the national dialogue seeks to reflect recommendations and outcomes of the meeting.
“This year’s dialogue is themed ‘leveraging youth migration for national development’ which echoes the theme for the 2023 international migrants day, ‘Act Today for. Better Tomorrow,’ a rallying cry that encapsulates the urgency with which we must address the challenges of migration, particularly as they intersect with the aspirations and potential of our youth.
“The national migration dialogue is a platform for facilitating national debate on cross cutting issues. It brings together relevant stakeholders From Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, (MDA’S), Civil Society Organizations, (CSOs), academia, Faith Based Organisations, (FBOs), the private sector and the media,” he said.
Ahmed adds that the event will also identify strategies and policies that can be implemented within local context.
According to him, “internal migration is a significant area of concern as it offers a comprehensive perspective on migration across the entire country. It frequently mirrors inequalities in development and economic prospects among various regions within a nation.”
