Immediate past General Secretary of Afenifere, Seinde Arogbofa, has described exemption of universities from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) as perfect strategy to tackle the brain drain crisis in the higher education sector.

The former pro-chancellor and chairman of governing council of Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State told reporters yesterday in Akure that the move would allow for more flexibility and autonomy. He said the decision will equally enable universities to attract and retain highly qualified academics.

In a related development, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), which developed a joint payment platform, University Peculiar Personnel and Payroll System ( U3PS) has saidcharged government should name the new platform tertiary institutions would be paid with.

In his opening remarks during the 46th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union at the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, Niger State, yesterday, SSANU president, Mohammed Ibrahim urged government to replace IPPIS with the U3PS, which he argued, had passed all integrity tests.
