A few individuals can boast a journey as unique and multifaceted as Kizito Efeotor, known affectionately as Oga Kizito in the world of music and entertainment. This Nigerian music consultant and record label executive has not only left his mark on the music industry but has also ventured into the realms of marketing, advertising, and public relations.
Oga Kizito’s story begins in the bustling city of Warri, Nigeria. Raised in a Catholic family, he initially had aspirations of becoming a Catholic priest, serving at mass from a tender age. However, destiny had different plans for him. His journey into the world of music began in 2015 when a friend, impressed by his poetic prowess, won a rap contest using lines from Oga Kizito’s discarded poems. This serendipitous moment ignited his passion for music.
Before embracing music fully, Oga Kizito had garnered recognition as an award-winning flash fiction writer and poet. His literary talents were evident when two of his flash fictions secured spots in the prestigious Etisalat Prize for Flash Fiction’s top 50 list in 2017.
In 2020, Oga Kizito, in collaboration with Verse6ix, co-founded MBB Distro, short for Media Beyond Borders. Initially conceived as a music distribution service, MBB Distro has rapidly evolved into a comprehensive marketing and promotions company. Today, it provides label services to musicians and extends its expertise in marketing, advertising, and PR to a diverse clientele spanning politics, hospitality, and entertainment industries.
Oga Kizito’s journey has been punctuated by accolades, including the Top Naija Music Awards in 2017, where he was recognized as an artist with immense potential. Currently, he is deeply involved in the music and creative development, marketing, and promotions of afrobeats artists Dannyello and Shilee. These efforts are carried out in collaboration with SinQ Record Label and Boss Player Records.
Beyond music, Oga Kizito and MBB Distro are pioneering innovative approaches to fuse luxury vacation tours with music tours and festivals in Africa. Partnering with Pic-A-Place, a travel and tour company, they aim to revolutionize the music tour and festival culture on the continent.
Looking ahead, Oga Kizito is committed to contributing to the growth of the African music industry. He envisions a landscape where African creativity thrives through innovative ideas tailored to suit the African society and market. Moreover, he is laying the groundwork for a foundation that will give back to local communities, ensuring that creatives remain connected to their grassroots and make a lasting impact.
In the words of Oga Kizito himself, “The only thing I cannot do is what I have not thought about.” With his boundless creativity, dedication, and unwavering spirit, there’s no doubt that his journey is far from over, and the best is yet to come.
