Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has distanced himself from Daniel Bwala, who served as his campaign spokesperson for the 2023 presidential election.

Atiku stated that Bwala’s role was “terminated” after the election and that he is not considered as his “aide”.

“Bwala offered his services and support to the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation as a spokesperson – and it was a position he held during the last presidential campaign,” said a statement from the former VP.

“Subsequently, and after the election, the need for a campaign spokesperson has terminated, and Bwala has moved on with his career.”

Bwala has been engaging President Bola Tinubu in recent times, including having a meeting at the Presidential Villa last month.

Tinubu defeated Atiku and Peter Obi of the Labour Party – his main challengers in the 2023 presidential election.

Five months after Tinubu’s swearing-in as president, Bwala, who was Atiku’s spokesman during the election, expressed “appreciation to the president for the decisions he is taking.”

He said his praise for Tinubu “is not about political parties.”.

“And you need to know that like I said, I was with him before I left,” Bwala told journalists after a meeting with Tinubu.

Atiku has urged the media and the public to stop addressing Bwala as his ex-aide because his role was automatically terminated after the election.
