The Federal Government has announced plans to revive the dormant Inland Container Depot (ICD) project at Erunmu in Egbeda Local Council of Oyo State after 16 years of inactivity.

Executive Secretary/Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Pius Akutah, disclosed this during an assessment visit to the Erunmu Dry Port site where stakeholders from the host community, concessionaire, and members of the Nigerian Shippers Council in the South-West convened.

Akutah, who disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had prioritised the importance of Inland Dry Port projects across the country, of which Erunmu is one of them, said that the Federal Government was conducting a fact-finding mission to understand why the Erunmu dry port project had halted at only 20 per cent completion.

He said that the Nigerian Shippers Council would accelerate activities at the Erunmu site to ensure its timely completion and inauguration.

The NSC boss said: “We are fully committed to ensuring that the Erunmu Inland Container Depot becomes a reality. “

He, however, commended residents of Erunmu for their patience that the project lay fallow, as he promised that the Federal Government would ensure that the Erunmu ICD becomes a reality.

President of Oyo State Shippers’ Association, Elizabeth Olanrewaju, stressed the need to have processing terminals and facilities near the dry port site to minimise transportation costs and logistical challenges.
