Perturbed by the growing hardship in the country, a non-governmental organisation, Zenith Environmental Protection Network (ZESPRONET), has said that it would shift attention to human empowerment to curb hunger among Nigerians.

The group’s International President, Eke Uguru, who stated this during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Enugu, lamented the rising hardship, stressing that the country has not had it this bad since the end of the civil war.

Uguru, who described the current situation in the country as “living in perilous times”, said the organisation would do more for Nigerians to cushion the effects of poor governance.

He stated that the organisation, in the last five years, invested hugely in improving infrastructure at the Abia State University and Imo State University by donation of books and laptops, provision of solar street lights, building of a 42-bed post-graduate hostel, planting of trees as well as sustaining the award for best graduating medical student at Imo State university.

Uguru said the new executive he leads would deepen the already established relationship with the two universities and beyond. Speaking, Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu, said the relationship between the school and the organisation has improved education.
