Alumnae of FGGC Bida set to mark school’s 50th anniversary

Alumnae of Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Bida, are set to commemorate their alma mater’s 50th anniversary in October this year.

The alumnae stated that the event, scheduled from October 12 to 14, would celebrate five decades of academic excellence, personal growth, and lasting memories.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja to mark the kick-off of the 50th-anniversary celebration, tagged “50th Founder’s Day of Federal Government Girls’ College, Bida,” the Global President of the Old Girls’ Association, Hilda Nkor, explained that the occasion is to “celebrate half a century of academic excellence, sisterhood, service, and life-changing experiences.”

She announced highlights of the event, including a fundraising dinner/gala night to support the school’s development projects, free medical outreach, scholarships, intercollegiate quiz and debate competitions, a novelty football match between old and current students, and a tribute to founding principals and pioneering staff, among others.

According to her, the golden jubilee celebration promises to be a grand reunion, bringing together generations of accomplished women who have passed through the college’s hallowed halls.

Nkor said: “The journey from the founding of our school to where we stand today has been filled with countless memories. This milestone anniversary, therefore, provides us an opportunity to reflect on the shaping of generations of women leaders, innovators, and change agents.

“It is a tribute to all the beautiful ladies who have passed through the gates of this great institution.”

Other executive members of the alumnae body at the event were Amina Salihu, Chair of the Board of Trustees, as well as Jummai Gimba, Chairperson of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee.
