NDLEA arrests one in raid on Edo cannabis loading hub, recovers 70 bags

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State raided a cannabis transit and loading hub at Aviose, Owan West Local Government Area (LGA), recovering 70 bags of cannabis weighing 1,050kg.

The agency reported that the seizure took place on Friday, October 11, 2024, adding that during a second operation on the same day, NDLEA officers arrested a suspect, Monday Akele, 38, at Owan Village in Ovia North East LGA, seizing an additional 110 kg of cannabis from the scene.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives in Anambra, on Saturday, October 12, arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Okelue Chidera.

Chidera was apprehended with 50,000 tablets of tramadol (200mg) at Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

Meanwhile, NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programme extended its outreach activities to schools in Edo State. Among these initiatives was a sensitisation lecture delivered to students and teachers at Joy Primary and Secondary School in Idogbo, Benin City, stressing the dangers of drug abuse and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, commended the Edo Command for its operational success.

“These achievements underscore our agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and reducing demand for illicit substances through public engagement,” he said.
