Lagos arrests celebrant, event planner, musician for obstructing traffic
The Lagos State Government, on Saturday, October 19, 2024, arrested some individuals, including the celebrant, event planner, musician, and others, for obstructing traffic and creating an environmental nuisance.
This was revealed by the Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab.
The individuals arrested are Omolara Ajetumobi, the event planner; Ogundare Olubunmi, celebrant; Ayodele Busuyi, musician; Owoeye Adedayo, sound engineer; and Akinola Akinkunmi, vendor.
According to Wahab, the suspects were arrested for blocking Raymond Njoku Road in Southwest, Ikoyi, during a birthday celebration.
He said they would be tried in court in accordance with the laws of the state.
The Lagos State Government reiterates that no one is above the law and will not be permitted to disregard state regulations.
Wahab also revealed that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has given a two-week ultimatum to residents of over 15 identified distressed buildings at Iponri Housing Estate to pull them down.
Wahab said the agency had issued several notices and warnings to the affected residents to vacate the area.
“The residents agree that the buildings are distressed but some are bringing up issues of ‘court order’ and all that.
“This is what the agency faces in trying to do the right thing UNTIL the building collapse happens and the government still gets the blame,” he said.
