The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed the meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC), initially scheduled for October 24, to November 28, 2024.

The NEC meeting was first postponed from September 2024 to October 2024.

The party explained that the postponement is to allow for adequate preparation for the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State.

The decision was reached at a consultative meeting between the governors and key stakeholders of the party on Tuesday night.

A communiqué signed by the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and released after the meeting, read in part: “Rising from the consultative meeting of the various organs of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party resolved that the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting originally slated for October 24, 2024, has been rescheduled to November 28, 2024.

“The postponement is to ensure that the party enters the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial election on November 16, 2024, with the unity and strength needed to unseat the floundering All Progressives Congress, APC, government in the state.”

The communiqué further stressed the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party.

“The meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts to strengthen the party and position it effectively as the country’s main opposition, in preparation for the 2027 elections,” it added.

The party organs represented at the meeting included the Board of Trustees, the National Working Committee (NWC), the National Assembly leadership of the PDP Caucus, and the Forum of Former Governors.
