” I always find the Nigerian radio presenter funny, especially with their fake foreign accent but what i heard on the radio was different.

“I tuned in, what I got was two hours of pure gold. The OAPs were engaged in a meaningful discussion about misconceptions Americans have about Africa, particularly Nigeria. Instead of brushing off the stereotypes about insecurity and corruption, they used Afrobeats to tell our real story, the vibrant, resilient, and creative Nigeria we know.

According to him, the FM uses Afrobeat to tell a story and address misconceptuons that Nigerians are all criminals instead of talking about insecurities and corruption in Nigeria.

“When TY Bello’s Greenland played, I felt a surge of pride. Then, they tackled the myth that Nigerians are fleeing their country due to its dire state. Sure, life here can be tough, but when Motherland by Sound Sultan came on, it reminded me that home is always Nigeria, no matter where we go.

“The OAPs also debunked the stereotype of Nigerians fighting among themselves by playing hits like Fada Fada and Augment by Phyno and Olamide. These collaborations showcase how music transcends our ethnic divides and unites us instead.

“If there were more radio stations like Wahala FM spreading the beauty of Nigeria, maybe Americans would get off their high horses and truly appreciate what we carry within us as Nigerians, Ejikeme said.
