Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged to leverage the newly elected local government chairmen to drive rural development and reduce youth unemployment across the state.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote at Chiranchi Ward in Kano Municipal, Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in the potential impact of having elected representatives in all 44 local government areas, promising that this administration would prioritise rural communities and the empowerment of young people.

A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, quoted Governor Yusuf emphasising the critical role of the new local government leaders in bridging the gap between the state government and the grassroots.
“I think the rural dwellers are the luckiest as far as we are concerned, these things that we have been doing without elected chairmen. Now, today we are electing the executive of the local government councils that will be able to talk and have direct contact with the rural dwellers, therefore, it would be unprecedented,” he noted.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that despite the absence of elected chairmen until now, his administration had implemented several developmental projects throughout the state, focusing on healthcare, education, agriculture, and youth empowerment. He reassured young residents of Kano that both the state and local governments would work in unison to improve their access to job opportunities, enhance security, and secure their welfare.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that candidates elected on the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) platform are responsible individuals committed to serving the people. He warned newly elected council members against corruption, stating that any deviation from their mandate would result in strict disciplinary action, as outlined by Kano’s laws.
Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo also cast his vote at Kofar Fada ward in Gwarzo Local Government, lauding the election’s peaceful conduct and voter turnout. He attributed the smooth process to the collaboration of security agencies, including the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), vigilante groups, and Hisbah personnel, who ensured a peaceful atmosphere across the state.
