
President Bola Tinubu, yesterday, launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund.
He performed the brief ceremony at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he commended the armed forces for their role as the first line of defence in protecting the country.
The President specifically highlighted the roles played by the military in combating all threats to Nigeria’s national security.
According to him, it will be impossible to promote peace and development without security, hence the patriotic commitment of the armed forces to the nation’s unity, stability and progress remains invaluable.
In appreciation of the efforts of the fallen heroes to national security, Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, pledged N500 million on behalf of government officials.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on behalf of the National Assembly, donated N200 million, while the Chief of Defence of Staff, Christopher Musa, announced a donation of N50 million on behalf of service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is usually commemorated every January 15 to honour fallen heroes, who staked their lives in protecting the country and its citizens.The 2025 celebration would mark the second edition Tinubu will be hosting since he assumed office.
The President, his deputy, Kashim Shettima, President of the Senate, Chief Justice of Nigeria, among others, are to lay wreaths in honour of the fallen heroes on that day.
