…Vows renewed commitment to national service

Vice President Kashim Shettima will proceed on a two-week leave beginning today, Thursday, August 6, 2026, following the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

It will be his first leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

According to a statement, the Vice President will use the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal aimed at strengthening his capacity for continued service to the nation.

The leave, the statement said, will provide Senator Shettima with an opportunity to assess the administration’s ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of the Federal Government’s implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since taking office, Shettima has played a central role in coordinating and supervising key government initiatives, particularly in the areas of economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

He also chairs the National Economic Council (NEC), the constitutional body that brings together the governors of the 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior public officials to deliberate on policies affecting the nation’s economy and the welfare of citizens.

On the international stage, the Vice President has represented President Tinubu at major regional and global engagements, advancing Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment promotion and sustainable development.

The statement noted that Shettima remains committed to the ideals of loyalty, duty and selfless service that have defined his role in the administration, while continuing to support President Tinubu’s efforts to build a more secure, prosperous and productive Nigeria.

He is expected to resume official duties at the expiration of the two-week leave with what the statement described as “renewed energy and dedication” to national service.
