The art of music production entails some level of creativity. It’s demanded more when the person is a music arranger, vocal coach, mixing and mastering expert.

All these titles and attributes are what Dr. Edwards Sunday possesses. Producing songs is different from arranging songs. The latter requires some skill and technicality. An arranger helps finish, rework, and adapt preexisting compositions by altering elements such as instrumentation, orchestration, harmony, tempo, and genre. Even the fans are sometimes unaware of the difference between these two processes.

When I find anyone who can seamlessly execute these two tasks, I am always in awe of such fellows. Dr. Edwards Sunday is one of the few Nigerians who have been able to walk this path successfully. In most of the songs he produced, he is always in charge of the song arrangement. This way, everything is sequentially laid down and executed.

No track has shown this sonic dexterity like “Dependable Jesus,” by Esther Oji. It’s a track off “Sound Of Heaven,” extended play by EeZee Tee Concept.

From the horn to the trumpet and the guitar strings, with Esther Oji’s beautiful rendition. The song starts off with a mild tempo type of beat; it later snowballs into a high tempo as the song progresses.

Although the beat of “Dependable Jesus,” is percussion-based Edwards Sunday kept it on a mid-tempo.He allowed the backup singer’s vocals to seep in, as they echoed the words of the singer.

Underneath the vocal is high power percussion, elegantly arranged by Edwards Sunday. It just shows the thought process expended on a track like this. The shakers and bassline keep rolling in, it permeates the track.

Shakers, sticks, drums, guitar strings, piano chords are a whole lot of instrumental to form a song. It takes a brilliant mind to arrange this, and also, make it sound so well. Having listened to a whole lot of songs, I know the daunting task like this, and for Edwards Sunday to pull this off clearly shows that he is a master music producer and a fine music arranger.
