At the sixth edition of Design Week Lagos (DWL), Starwood, operating under the umbrella of Uniwood Ltd, has reiterated its commitment to transforming and redefining the furniture landscape in Nigeria.

The 2024 edition of DWL, which held recently, brought together industry leaders, designers, and innovators, who charted courses on the growth of Nigeria’s design sector.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director, Uniwood Ltd, Roland Tannoury, noted the importance of quality and innovative woodwork designs that fits perfectly into the Nigeria and Africa humid weather conditions. He said: “Over the past 14 years, Uniwood Ltd, Starwood’s parent company, has established a strong presence in Nigeria, particularly, in the furniture industry, demonstrating market expertise and a deep understanding of local needs. The aim is to expand our reach, targeting a broader audience, from individual homeowners to large furniture companies. Starwood’s mission is to provide top-notch products at best prices and cater to the growing demand for affordable luxury in Nigeria.

Tannoury also revealed plans to establish a local factory in Nigeria, further solidifying Starwood’s commitment to the Nigerian market.

In her remark, Founder of DWL Titi Ogufure, commended Starwood for its strong commitment to the expanding design industry in Nigeria.

She acknowledged how the firm has prioritised quality, affordability and innovative design solutions, and harped on the importance of education and empowerment in Nigeria’s design sector.

Also speaking at the event, Chief of Staff to the Secretary of the Government of the Federation, Christopher Tarka, highlighted government’s significant role in providing support to the furniture sector.

He said: “All the designs being exhibited at DWL are of good quality, which I believe the market will readily embrace and it makes me proud to be a Nigerian. This is an industry that is facing a lot of challenges and we are encouraging them to express the challenges they are facing and how the government can help their growth.”
