Ondo poll: Don’t yield to intimidation, PDP chair tells supporters

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democracy Party( PDP), Alhaji Umar Damangum, has urged the party supporters in Ondo State not to yield to intimidation during the Saturday’s governorship election.

Damangum made the call during the final campaign rally for the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, on Thursday in Akure.

He asked the party’s supporters and electorate to cast their votes for the party and defend their votes till final collation.

The national chairman stated that Saturday would be a day to decide the fate of the state through voting, urging the people of the state to “drive the All Progressives Congress ( APC) away from government” with their votes.

According to him, when the PDP was in government in the state, a lot of achievements were recorded.

He said that if PDP wins the Saturday election, an end would come to poverty and suffering in the state, citing Oyo and Osun states as states that had witnessed tremendous changes from the PDP government.

He described the APC-led government in the state as bereft of policies and ideas, making the state to lag behind in developmental strides.

Also speaking, Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State said that the party was united, asking voters to vote out the APC-led government.

Mohammed added that the state was known with acquisition of knowledge, stating that “it should not be ruled by nonentity.”

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State asked the party’s supporters to go back to the grassroots and mobilise for more support for the party.

Makinde pleaded that nobody should fight but use their votes as a strength to end the APC-led government in the state.

The party’s governorship candidate in 2020, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, stated that voting for PDP would bring total emancipation from suffering and affliction.

Jegede said that the party would bring back the glory of the state if voted into power.

He asked the supporters to get their voter’s cards, stating that PDP would “bring light to the state.”

In his remarks, Sen. Abba Moro, who said that the party was formidable and united, highlighted the achievements recorded when PDP was in power in the state.

Moro berated the state government for denying the PDP from the use of the Democracy Park for its rally, asking Agboola not to deny anybody the use of government property when voted into power.

He noted that Ajayi had political experience, saying “there should be no continuity in penury and suffering.”

The state Chairman of PDP, Dr. Bakitta Bello, said that the turnout of supporters showed that the people of the state were ready for a desired change.

Bello enjoined people of the state to come out en masse and use their vote wisely in securing their future.

Appreciating the party and the supporters, Agboola said all supporters should be agents on the election day in defending their votes.

Those present at the event include the Chairman of the National Campaign Council of PDP Governorship Ondo State 2024, Gov. Ademola Adeleke; Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Gov. Diri Duoye of Bayelsa, Gov. Caleb Muftwang of Plateau, Sen. Abiodun Olukemi.

Others are: Dr. Eddy Olafeso, the Chairman of the State PDP Campaign Council Governorship Election 2024, Mr. Clement Faboyede, the Director-General of the Campaign Council.
