Ondo Election: PDP candidate laments malfunctioning BVAS, knocks INEC

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the ongoing Ondo State Governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, has reported a mass malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

Addressing newsmen after casting his vote, Ajayi said it took him 10 minutes to do so because of the issue with BVAS which shouldn’t have been the case.

The PDP candidate said calls made to other polling units revealed a similar encounter, describing it as shameful.

He said the malfunctioning of the BVAS was a sign that the system had been set as a rigging tool.

Knocking the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State, Oluwatoyin Babalola, Ajayi said his party had warned that she won’t be fair during the election.

He called on the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to step aside if he knows he cannot ensure that the commission is not compromised.

Our correspondent reported earlier that the Ondo REC told newsmen that BVAS recorded a 97 per cent success rate in the ongoing election.

She disclosed this while monitoring the election at some centres in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

She was accompanied by the National Commissioner of INEC, Kenneth Onyeakwu, and the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Oladipo Abayomi.

According to Babalola, the election has been running smoothly, adding that polls were opened very early with impressive voter turnout.

She also expressed confidence that the election will be concluded without issues.
