Leaders of the Ardova Premier Handball League, Tojemarine Academy, yesterday, defeated Adamawa Warriors 44-25 to record their second win in the second phase of the 2024 season, which began on Wednesday in Lagos.

Tojemarine, who are leading the pack in the men’s category, had beaten Correction Boys 35-27 on Wednesday and underlined their desire to lift their first title with the big win over the Warriors from Yola.

Tojemarine dominated the game and scored from most of the chances that came their way, while Coach Adewunmi Shittu was on his feet dishing out instructions to his wards despite his team’s dominance.

The Yola side tried to curtail Tojemarine’s foray, but it was to no avail as the leaders continued to find ways to open up the Warriors’ defence at will.
In other games played in the men’s category, second-placed Rima Strikers defeated Benue Buffaloes 37-21. The Strikers looked good throughout the game and gave their opponents no breathing space in the encounter.

Owena Kings also secured their first win in Lagos with a walk over against Confluence Stars, who have failed to show up in the league this season.

In the women’s category, Delta Queens defeated Imo Grasshopper 35-34 in a game that brought out the best in both teams. The game could also have gone either ways, but the Queens from Asaba stayed strong to win.

Grasshoppers will rue this loss as they also had the chance to get at least a point, but missed the final chance that came their way.

In another game in the women’s category, league leaders, Safety Babes edged Seasiders Babes of Lagos 32-30. The Lagos side gave a good account of themselves but the quality of the leaders made the difference in the close game. Also, De Defenders Babes defeated Bendel Dynamos 42-23 to consign the Benin side to the position of the league’s whipping team.
