Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has stressed the need for citizens, participants and visitors to uphold peace and be security-conscious, as the much-anticipated Christmas Unplugged Season 2.0 opens in Uyo, the capital.
Eno gave the charge while declaring open, the event at the Christmas Park located within the Unity Park along Udo Udoma Avenue in Uyo. The governor said despite the influx of people into the venue, from all walks of life, within and outside the state to enjoy the refreshing Christmas experience to be offered by the 32-day fiesta, it was critical to maintain peace and security in the arena, and the state as a whole.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Enobong Uwa, the governor assured of the government’s commitment towards the safety of lives and property before, during and after the ceremony. He said the government had launched 24-hour security surveillance within the park.
The governor lauded the Sir Charles Udoh-led organising team for the programme and expressed optimism that the event was going to be bigger and better than that of last year.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, expressed deep appreciation to the governor for approving the hosting, which offers a grand opportunity to place Akwa Ibom on the global map by showcasing its rich cultural heritage.
Udoh commended the foresight of the governor in relocating the Christmas Village displays by council areas from the open field to the Amphitheatre Arena, which now offers them enough space to showcase their arts, crafts, cuisines and cultural performances.
The commissioner promised that residents and visitors alike would enjoy 32 days of uninterrupted power supply alongside a catalogue of well-packed uninterrupted entertainment of classical and contemporary by top musical performers.
