Abba’s accountability record driving Kano development, says Suleiman

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf

A Kano-based social critic, Malam Abdulmalik Suleiman, has attributed the development projects and reforms of the Kano State Government to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to accountability, transparency and prudent management of public resources.

Suleiman, who spoke in Kano on Wednesday while briefing journalists, said the governor’s insistence on due process and efforts to block leakages had improved the management of government resources and created greater room for investment in critical sectors.

He said Yusuf had demonstrated that public office was a trust between the government and the people, adding that his approach to governance had helped restore confidence in the administration.

“Gov. Abba is a leader who strongly believes that things should be orderly in keeping with the trust between him and the Kano people. That is why his success is built on transparency and accountability,” he said.

According to Suleiman, the administration’s emphasis on accountability had ensured that public expenditure was subjected to due process while government contracts were handled in accordance with established procedures.

“What we are witnessing today in Kano is not by accident. It is the result of deliberate and orderly leadership. Every expenditure is accounted for, and every contract follows due process. He believes leadership is a trust and that trust must not be betrayed,” he stated.

He identified interventions in education, healthcare and infrastructure, as well as the payment of pensions and gratuities, among areas where he said the impact of the administration’s management of public resources could be seen.

Suleiman argued that maintaining transparency and accountability in the use of public funds remained critical to sustaining development, saying continuity would allow the government to consolidate programmes already initiated across the state.

He therefore linked the governor’s accountability record to the 2027 political contest, saying a second term would provide an opportunity for the administration to build on its ongoing projects and reforms.

“With what he has achieved in less than two years, his return for a second term will serve as a bedrock for massive growth and development in the state. He has built the foundation on trust and accountability; the second term will be for consolidation and greater prosperity for Kano people,” he added.

On the 2027 presidential election, Suleiman also said Yusuf was a strong supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and expressed the view that the governor would support the President in Kano.

“Gov. Abba, who is one of the strongest believers in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will deliver Kano State to the President due to the governor’s goodwill in the state. The people trust him because he has kept his promises,” he said.

He urged residents to sustain their support for the administration, arguing that continuity would enable the government to consolidate its programmes and pursue further development initiatives across Kano.
