Bauchi okays new chiefdom to douse tension

Bauchi Governor, Bala mohammed

Governor Bala Mohammed has approved the creation of Seyawa Chiefdom with its headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Local Council of Bauchi State. The governor made the announcement yesterday in Bauchi while addressing stakeholders from the area.

The state currently has six emirates, namely Bauchi, Dass, Katagum, Jama’are, Misau and Ningi. There has been age-long agitation for a new Sayawa Chiefdom in the mostly Christian-dominated areas of Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro council areas.

Speaking after receiving the report of his committee, Mohammed said the decision was taken after a careful study of the document by the panel, set up to come up with detailed modalities of how the chiefdom could be established.

This, he said was part of the efforts of his administration to find lasting solutions to the lingering problems around the creation of Seyawa Chiefdom, which had defiled efforts by successive administrations for over three decades.

The governor expressed sadness over the loss of innocent lives due to a series of ethno-religious violence that erupted in the Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro axis in the realisation of the new chiefdom.
