
It was a potpourri of culture, politics and development recently as indigenes of Ikorodu converged on Ayangbure’s palace, venue of the 33rd Ikorodu Oga Day.

The festival was created to showcase the community’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential as well as commitment to making Ikorodu a centre of selfless service and hard work.
The event was themed, ‘Ikorodu: Path to Progress’.For over 30 years of the festival’s existence, residents have enjoyed continued peace and there has been commendable development in the town.
Chairman, Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Erogbogbo Rotimi Akeem, called on illustrious sons and daughters at home and abroad to join hands in the community’s development.”
Erogbogbo also called for continued unity among residents. He emphasised the need for a shared vision and strategy to drive progress in the community.
Lagos State Deputy Gov., Obafemi Hamzat, commended residents of Ikorodu for their support, cooperation and peaceful coexistence. He urged them to continue to support the state government to bring more dividends of democracy.
According to him, with continued collaboration between the state government and the residents, Ikorodu is poised for sustained growth and development. Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, thanked Lagos State government and other stakeholders for contributing to the development of Ikorodu.
“Today, I see the impact of government in Ikorodu, the state government is committed to infrastructure development and improving the lives of the residents.
Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Benson, expressed gratitude to traditional rulers in Ikorodu as well as other residents for organising the festival, which has potential of deepening the tourism potential of the town . Benson gave the assurance that more developmental projects would be implemented in the community in fulfillment of his election campaign promises.
Sen. Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos East) also commended the people of Ikorodu for their support and urged them to work in synergy to foster development in the community.
Awards were given to people for their contributions in the community. The Deputy Governor was presented with a miniature statue of Oga, the founder of Ikorodu by Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu as a sign of appreciation and Chairman, Multichoice Nigeria, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya (SAN).
