Yoruba group cautions Portable against denigrating Alaafin of Oyo stool

A concerned Yoruba group, Kaaro Oojiire Omo Oodua Foundation (KOOOF), has called on popular musician, Okikiola Badmus (aka Portable), not to defame the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III or any Yoruba traditional stool.

The group’s reaction is coming on recent development between Portable and an estranged wife of the late Alaafin, Queen Dammy, where the musician allegedly uploaded a video on the internet, which contains malicious and defamatory statements against Dammy.

A statement signed by Chairman of KOOOF, Asiwaju Olu Mayungbe, posited that Portable’s claims in the video are not only frivolous, egregious, and preposterous but also damaging to Yoruba anthropology and culture.

The group urges Portable to understand the fact that such comments made in the video are disrespectful to the highly revered late Yoruba royal father and his family.

It therefore urged the singer not only to tender an unreserved apology to Yoruba people, traditional rulers and especially the Oyomesi chiefs and family members on all social media platforms and newspapers, the group also advised Portable to withdraw the defamatory video from all his social networks.

The group also urged the Nigerian authorities to take necessary action on the matter. It said, “The Kaaro Oojiire Omo Oodua Foundation, will continue to promote and protect Yoruba culture, tradition. and heritage.”
