Abuja hosts 14th ZUFF Festival
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) and Nollywood Icon, Ali Nuhu recently spearheaded the 14th edition of the Zuma Film Festival (ZUFF) held in Abuja. Renowned for his contributions to Nigerian cinema, Nuhu emphasised the festival’s significance as a global platform for filmmakers to network, collaborate, and exchange cultural ideas.
Speaking on the impact of the festival, Nuhu stated: “Zuma Film Festival is more than an event—it is a movement that promotes Nigeria’s cultural and creative economy. It creates jobs, empowers youth, and fosters collaboration across borders.” With over 1,000 submissions from countries including the United States, France, India, and Spain, the festival demonstrated its growing international appeal.
Under his leadership, ZUFF 2024 celebrated the theme “Digital Renaissance: Embracing the Future,” exploring the transformative power of digital technology in filmmaking. The festival featured a diverse range of activities, including free film screenings, discussions on artificial intelligence in storytelling, and workshops tailored for emerging filmmakers in cinematography, scripting, and acting.
Nuhu also highlighted the festival’s role in nurturing new talents and cultural exchanges, stating: “For upcoming talents, we have segments where they are trained in various aspects of filmmaking. Zuma Film Festival also serves as a platform for cultural exchange, bridging gaps between filmmakers globally.”
The event’s highlights included the NFC Annual Film Lecture delivered by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Women in Film Forum, and the prestigious Zuma Award Night, celebrating excellence in African cinema.
This year’s festival further solidified Nigeria’s position as a global hub for creativity and innovation in film, with support from prominent partners.
