Families and friends of the kidnapped senior Anglican cleric, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, can now heave a sigh of relief after the cleric was freed by his abductors.
Words filtered in on Thursday morning that Most Rev. Okpala was released alongside his driver after spending one month in the kidnappers’ den.
Although details of his release are still sketchy as of the time this report was filed, it is being celebrated on various social media platforms of the Anglican Communion. One such platform is the official Facebook page of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Nnewi.
It would be recalled that the retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on his way to Umuchu, a community in Anambra State, for a burial ceremony.
