…As Akpabio inaugurates institution tomorrow
Ahead of Saturday, February 8, 2025, formal opening and matriculation of the pioneer students of Amadeus University Amizi (AUA) in Abia State by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the institution, Prof. Samuel Nzotta, has posited that to ensure that private universities in Nigeria fulfil their vision and mission, the Federal Government should review the Tertiary Education Trust Fund ( TETFUND ) mode of operation to enable it provide research grants to scholars in private university.
During interaction with journalists at the Saturday event yesterday, the VC urged the FG that reviewing the TETFUND operation mode will enhance staff development in private universities, ensuring holistic research activities in the country and be salutary to Nigeria’s economic development.
He also called on local and state governments, including spirited individuals to assist the young private university, founded and solely financed by Dr Godwin Nwabunka, a Development Economist and a distinguished son of Amizi, in Ikwuano Council of Abia State.
He described AUA as a world-class and digital institution where research, innovation and a culture of excellence are emphasised. Nzotta added that the school has been positioned to produce knowledgeable, highly skilled and globally competitive graduates who, according to him, are expected to be job creators rather than job seekers.
Nzotta, who said that the security arrangement in AUA is good, having been fortified with Closed Circuit Cameras, especially in the hostels, while solar-powered street lights adorn the streets, including police/security posts, disclosed that AUA was granted a provisional license to operate as a university by the National Universities Commission in 2023.
