FG reaffirms completion of 100,000 houses before tenure ends

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment towards delivering 100,000 housing units as part of its  campaign promise to Nigerians, saying, presently they are working assiduously to certainly achieve this feat by the end of this present administration in the country.

In addition,it has  worked on several housing projects across the country ,and when these housing units are completed and delivered to homeowners, people can go to the locations to see them, adding, the promised bungalows will eventually become a reality.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma made the assertion after inspecting and accessing the extent of damage done to the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, FMBN, building that was gutted with fire incident last Saturday night in Abuja.

Darma stated emphatically that the fire incident which occurred in the Bank’s building is already known to customers, stakeholders and it has been quenched by fire fighters, explaining that it all began in the second floor and did not spread but also ended up there.

“We came to see the extent of damage done and to have interactive session with the management of the Bank to know exactly what happened and caused the inferno. From what they briefed us, it’s clear that it may be by accident or there was human intervention.”

According to Housing Minister, most likely, fire may have started from electrical spark. But,we are convinced by the Management’s briefing that there is nothing that was really lost, except for the physical structure of the 2nd floor as most of its materials were affected by fire.

“It was learned that documents, and others were graciously saved from the cloud, and it is a matter of recalling them, reprint as the case maybe. Thank God that the management has digitalised the entire systems as the fire consumed paperwork. This gives us a relief.

The Minister therefore called on Nigerians to continue to patronize the apex mortgage bank as nothing is lost, saying, they have asked them to look into their internal arrangements and make sure that they improve mortgage assessment by Nigerians by 2,000 Mortgages in annually.
