The National Judicial Council (NJC) has faulted the purported resolution by the Benue State House of Assembly recommending the removal of the state Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Maurice Ikpambese, from office.

The NJC stated that the resolution did not adhere to the clear and unambiguous provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, on the discipline and appointment of judicial officers.

In a statement, the Deputy Director (Information), Kemi Babalola Ogedengbe, said the NJC was in possession of a petition against Ikpambese, adding that the “petition is yet to be investigated in line with the council’s investigation procedure and the principles of fair hearing.”

He said that as far as the NJC is concerned, until the complaint is investigated and deliberated upon by the council, Ikpambese remains the Chief Judge of Benue State.
