FG, Korea inaugurate centre to drive digital education, AI

Federal Government and its Korean counterpart have commissioned the Korean-Nigerian Information Access Centre (IAC), aimed at driving digital education and creative innovation in the country.

The centre, domiciled at the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including computer labs, an AI development centre, a digital lounge, training rooms, a mobile IAC, and an e-resource library, all designed to foster digital literacy, innovation, and research and it is completely funded by the Korean government.

Meanwhile, the Korean government is investing $13 million from 2020 to 2026 to facilitate Nigeria’s transition to e-government, while it has invested $10 million to enhance multi-media education for primary and secondary schools in the country from 2021 to 2025.

Speaking at the ceremony yesterday, in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said the centre would foster AI and emerging tech expertise, preparing our workforce for the demands of the global digital economy and also support research and innovation, driving homegrown solutions in AI, IoT, big data, and cybersecurity.

Tijani stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his team were working hard to take the centre to the next level.

He said: “We are already the largest economy in Africa but our hope and inspiration is that we can get more contribution to the organisation. So your investment in DBI today is a significant contribution to the organisation because through this investment, not only are we able to accelerate the application of our modern and emerging technologies, but it also gives us a chance to start to provide opportunities in other countries.”
