The Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State, will showcase its inventions and patents at its first research and innovation fair as part of activities to herald its 4th convocation ceremony.

According to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, the innovation fair, which will be held on March 12, will give the university the opportunity to showcase 42 patents, and inventions and to seek cooperation with the business community for their usage and mass production.

At a pre-convocation media chat, Rim-Rukeh said: “Our dedication to research and innovation has fuelled a remarkable leap in our intellectual property achievements. Over the past year, we’ve expanded our patent portfolio to an impressive 34, marking a significant milestone in our quest for groundbreaking discoveries.

“Among these are an international patent and copyright, underscoring the global impact and transformative potential of our research.

These patents not only reflect our commitment to advancing knowledge but also highlight our role at the forefront of technological progress, driving innovation that will shape industries and improve lives worldwide.”

He said this year’s convocation is particularly special because, aside from celebrating the achievements of graduates, the university would be recognising individuals who have made tremendous contributions to various sectors such as engineering, business, and oil and gas.

Rim-Rukeh disclosed that the university will confer honorary degrees on several notable figures, including the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; High Chief Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi; the Group Chairman/Chieftain Executive Officer (CEO) of Leemon Engineering, Dr. Leemon Ikea; the Managing Director of First Hydrocarbon Ltd, Femi Bajom; the Chairman/CEO of Moni Pulo Ltd, Dr.S Lulu-Briggs, and the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Gbenga Komolafe.
