The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the facility.
The Command’s response follows a viral video circulating on social media showing suspected cultists visiting the newly refurbished station on Thursday, October 15, 2026, allegedly to celebrate the project’s completion.
In statement signed by ASP Blessing, Rivers Police Public Relations Officer, Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, ordered the immediate removal and querying of both the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) overseeing the Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer directly in charge of the outpost pending the outcome of the inquiry.
The police hierarchy strongly condemns any conduct or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Command strongly condemns any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force or conferring legitimacy, recognition or acceptance on suspected cult groups or other unlawful organisations,” the statement read.
“Police facilities are public institutions established for the protection of citizens and the enforcement of law and must not become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation or influence.”
The Commissioner of Police disclosed that the ongoing investigation would examine all dimensions of the incident to identify structural failures and individual culpability.
Addressing the issue of public assistance, the command acknowledged that Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 permits public donations and contributions to the Police General Fund.
However, the command emphasised that voluntary support must undergo rigorous vetting and cannot be used as a shield against criminal liability.
“The investigation will establish whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation. No donation or assistance confers immunity from investigation or prosecution,” Kaborlo added.
Reiterating its position on officer misconduct, the command promised that appropriate internal disciplinary procedures and legal sanctions would be applied to any personnel found liable upon conclusion of the probe.
Members of the public can report complaints through the Police Complaint Response Unit of the command.
