The African Patriots Forum (APF) has commended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, for their commitment to democracy and the rule of law following their Supreme Court victory.

In a statement signed by its Global President, Dr Lanre Solomon, the group hailed the lawmakers for pursuing legal redress rather than resorting to violence in their dispute with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. It described the court’s ruling, which affirmed the lawmakers’ legitimacy, as a “significant milestone in their struggle to assert authority and promote good governance in Rivers State.”

“The lawmakers, under the leadership of Amaewhule, have shown unwavering dedication to democracy, justice, truth, and the interests of their constituents,” the statement read. “Their courage in standing firm despite adversity reflects their strong convictions and commitment to the well-being of the people.”

The APF further accused Governor Fubara of undermining the rule of law and urged him to respect the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“The governor must stop playing political games and comply with the court’s decision. The Supreme Court’s verdict is clear and must be obeyed. Any further disregard for the ruling could be considered contempt,” the group stated.

It warned that continued defiance could lead to instability in the state, insisting that the people of Rivers had already endured enough political turmoil.

“The governor must put the interests of the state above his personal agenda. The people have suffered enough from his actions,” the statement continued.

The APF called on stakeholders in Rivers State to support the lawmakers, describing their efforts as a critical stand for democracy.

“Their actions serve as a reminder that democracy is not merely about winning elections but also about upholding justice, equality, and fairness,” the statement concluded.
