A tenant in Tafawa Balewa Square Complex, Onikan, J. O. Abass, has alleged outrageous increments in shops and offices within the facility. In a statement, Abass, who is the principal of J. O. Abass & Co, Legal Practitioner, claimed that the management increased the rent of shops and offices from N10,000 per square metre to N25,000 per square metre, which is a 150 per cent increment.
“They raised the service charge from N4,000 per square metre to N10,000 per square metre, which is a 150 per cent increment.
“They are not ready to account for the service charges collected from tenants. They are forever having issues with Eko Electricity, and we don’t have electricity all the time whilst the generators don’t work, although we pay service charge,” he said.
The complainant further alleged, “More importantly, they charge more than the stipulated tariffs for electricity. Most of the time, there is no running water.
“They have unilaterally changed the tenancy agreement without the input of tenants and are threatening tenants who refused to sign the new Agreement with eviction.
“All efforts by the tenants’ association to have an audience with the management of TBS towards a resolution of these burdens imposed on the tenants have been to no avail,” he stated.
