He added that the items were recovered from the suspects. They are Abba Modu Shuwa, 25; Mustapha Bura, 25; Ali Malami, 17; and Mustapha Abba, 27, who is from Benisheik town, while Bahisa Abubakar, 25, resides in the Bama town of the state.
Besides their arrest, Daso stated: “Our investigations also revealed that the arrested suspects dismantled the railway tracks and attempted to smuggle out the rail slippers and tracks, before their arrest by police patrol team.”
He said the suspects were arrested following credible information to the Benisheik Area Commander on March 29, 2025. He said that they were intercepted along the Damaturu-Maiduguri road at about 2:00 p.m.
According to him, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Maiduguri, for further discreet investigation and prosecution.
“The command remains committed to protecting public infrastructure by prosecuting those involved in vandalism and other criminal activities in the state,” he added.
