Speaking during the organization’s 2025 Lailatul Qadr prayer, tagged, ‘Prayer for the nation’ which witnessed over thousand Muslims, he described Ramadan as a time of heightened charity and devotion, where believers seek forgiveness and engage in acts of worship such as giving Zakat, seclusion (Itikaaf) and reciting the Holy Quran.
Amidst the spiritual reflection of Ramadan, AbdulMalik also addressed pertinent issues facing the Muslim Ummah. He spoke on the complex matter of Sharia law in Nigeria, stating that Nigeria is a nation rich in cultural and religious diversity.
He acknowledged the sensitivity surrounding its application in a society populated by Muslims and non-Muslims and counselled that while adhering to Sharia is ideal for Muslims, interpretations should remain true to its intended purpose. He highlighted the intrinsic connection between Sharia and Islamic practice, beginning with fundamental acts of worship like ablution and the daily prayers, noting that personal observance of Sharia is inherent in being Muslim generally without requiring government sanction, except in cases of extremism.
Furthermore, Sheikh AbdulMalik strongly condemned recent murder of a female final year student, cautioning against attributing the actions of an individual involved in such acts to the entire Muslim community simply because they identify him as Muslim. He asserted that such behaviour is not sanctioned by Islamic teachings and should be viewed as individual transgressions deserving of punishment, rather than a reflection of the religion itself. He stressed that criminality is not confined to any particular tribe or religion.
Addressing recent online disputes among some clerics, Sheikh AbdulMalik suggested that those engaging in public disagreements are aware of their motives and potential repercussions. He distanced such behaviour from the core principles of Islam, implying that some who present themselves as religious leaders might lack genuine understanding and misuse their positions.
According to the renowned cleric, Nigeria is on track to reach its potential, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is actively working to ensure the country’s success.
In his lecture, Sheikh Abdul Hadi Awwalu, highlighted the exceptional qualities of Sheikh Robiu as a genuine Islamic scholar, noting that Allah has bestowed upon him the remarkable ability for his prayers to be answered due to his unwavering adherence to the true teachings of Islam.
“As a true scholar of Islam, he is blessed with attributes reminiscent of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).” He pointed out that visitors consistently find Sheikh Robiu engaged in teaching the Quran or performing remembrance of Allah, which contributes to the radiant appearance of his face.
