Council chairman raises alarm over plans to disrupt peace in Taraba community

The Chairman of Wukari Local Government Council of Taraba State, Agbu Samaila Dauda, has raised the alarm over ongoing plans by the Tiv community to disrupt the relative peace in the local government.

In a statement on Thursday, made available to newsmen in Jalingo, the state capital, the chairman accused the group of spreading falsehoods.

Dauda also denied allegations that he approved a meeting held by the Tiv Elders Forum on December 30, 2024.

Responding to a letter dated March 20, 2025, from the Tiv Elders Forum, Dauda dismissed the claims as “baseless and laughable,” stating that he never authorised such a gathering.

Condemning the forum’s appointment of one Nenshi Terer as “Ter Wukari,” which he described as an illegitimate title not recognised by the Wukari Traditional Council or any official structure within the local government, Dauda reaffirmed that the only supreme traditional authority in Wukari remains the Aku-Uka.

“Titles such as ‘Ter Wukari’ do not exist in any legal or traditional framework within Wukari Local Government,” Dauda stated.

“I call on security agencies to investigate and apprehend Mr. Nenshi Terer or anyone falsely claiming such a title.”

Dauda further dismissed the notion of a “Tiv Central Leader” within Wukari, asserting that residents of various villages must adhere to the traditional hierarchy of their respective chiefdom.

He urged all ethnic groups, including the Tiv, to report issues through their village, ward, and district heads.

Urging the public to disregard the claims made by the Tiv Elders Forum, he labeled their actions as fabrications meant to create unnecessary tension in the community
