Troops foil kidnap attempt, rescue victims safely in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) said they have successfully foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued six victims without harm in Wukari Local Government Council of Taraba State.

The operation, which, according to the Army, took place on April 27, 2025, followed a distress call from the Executive Chairman of Wukari LGA about a suspected attack on travellers along the Wukari-Kente road.

Acting swiftly, troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari were said to have responded to the call and launched a rescue operation.

According to a statement released yesterday by the Acting Spokesperson of the Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, troops arrived at the scene to find an abandoned white Toyota Hilux with a flat tire. Shortly after, six individuals emerged from the surrounding bush and identified themselves as the occupants of the vehicle.

The victims explained they were travelling from Yola to Lafia when gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers or armed robbers, ambushed them from behind, forcing them to flee into the bush.

After securing the area, the troops repaired the damaged vehicle and ensured the travellers were able to continue their journey safely.

Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their rapid response and vigilance.

He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across Taraba State.

He also urged the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime and insecurity.
