Peter Obi hails resilience, dedication of Nigerian workers

As Nigeria marked the 2025 International Workers’ Day, Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, described the nation’s workforce as the “true strength of Nigeria” and called for a radical shift in how the country treats its labour force.

Obi, in a statement, acknowledged the suffering, sacrifice, and resilience of Nigerian workers, saying they have continued to serve the nation despite chronic underpayment, job scarcity, and rising living costs.

“Whether you’re a teacher shaping minds, a nurse saving lives, a farmer feeding millions, or a civil servant holding the system together—you are the soul of this country,” he said.

Obi lamented the economic challenges facing workers, including inflation, unemployment, and stagnant wages, noting that “patriotism must not be repaid with pain, and hard work must not continue to meet hardship.”

He emphasised the need to pivot Nigeria’s economy from wasteful consumption to productive investment.

“We must create jobs, grow local industries, and invest in our people. Our youth must be equipped with skills for the future,” he urged.

Highlighting his broader vision, he added: “I believe in a New Nigeria—where work is respected, productivity is rewarded, and no worker is made to choose between survival and dignity.

“You have carried this country long enough. Now it’s time for the country to carry you.

“Let us walk together toward a better future. Let Nigeria finally work for those who work for her.”
