Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly rescued 57 abducted victims from terrorists in Sambisa Forest, Bama Local Government Area of Borno.
According to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, the operation was conducted by troops of Operation Lake Sanity III and Operation Hadin Kai.
It was reported that the troops killed six of the terrorists during a patrol of the hideouts of Boko Haram insurgents.
The troops conducted the operation in collaboration with operatives of the Hybrid Force and CJTF on July 12.
Makama was informed by an intelligence source that some of the terrorists escaped with gunshot injuries and that the rescued victims are 20 adult females and 37 children.
Makama added that the troops recovered one Dane gun and destroyed all life support structures at the enclave.
Recently, troops killed 14 gunmen during a raid on the hideouts of Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa Forest.
The Guardian had reported that in June, troops rescued seven women and nine children kidnapped from their homes by terrorists.
The victims were rescued in a series of coordinated counter-terrorism operations conducted by troops in collaboration with the Vigilante and Hybrid Force.
During the operation, one terrorist was killed and arms and ammunition were recovered.
The Nigerian Army said on X that the troops deployed in the North East, in collaboration with Vigilante and Hybrid Forces, have achieved notable successes against terrorist activities in the region.
These efforts have led to the neutralisation of terrorists, the rescue of hostages, and the recovery of arms and other items.
“In Gwoza Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, troops executed an ambush targeting terrorists’ staging areas around Pulka and Ashagashiya,” the Army said.
“The operation resulted in contact with the terrorists, leading to the neutralisation of one, while others fled, abandoning their belongings. Seven women and nine children were rescued from captivity.”
It stated that troops recovered one submachine gun (SMG), three bicycles, four blankets, cooking utensils, and various other items.
