Promising Nigerian centre-back Brendan Ifeanyi Asomugha has signed his first professional contract with FK Sveikata, one of Lithuania’s most historic football clubs, marking a major milestone in his young career.
Born in Kano on 19 December 2005, Asomugha has already made his debut for the club, stepping into European football with confidence and composure. Known for his defensive awareness, physical presence, and calmness under pressure, the teenager plays primarily as a central defender.
His football journey began at Calgary Football Academy in Abuja, where he developed his core skills. He later spent time on loan at Mailantarki Care FC before returning to Calgary to complete his development. From there, he secured a move to FK Sveikata, becoming one of a growing number of young Nigerian talents making the leap to professional football abroad.
Asomugha’s career has been managed by JK Sports Management, a firm that has provided professional mentorship and guidance throughout his development. His move to Europe is seen as a significant step forward in what many expect to be a bright career.
Reacting to the deal, Asomugha said, “Signing my first professional contract is a dream come true. I’m grateful to FK Sveikata for believing in me and to JK Sports Management for guiding me every step of the way.”
Jeremiah Ogaga, CEO of JK Sports Management, expressed pride in the young defender’s progress. “We are incredibly proud of Brendan’s development. This is just the beginning, and we are committed to helping him reach even greater heights,” he said.
Asomugha’s transfer further underlines the growing presence of Nigerian talent in European football and highlights the role of domestic academies in preparing young players for international careers.
