LASG laments bridge vandalisation, begins rehabilitation

Olufemi Daramola

Lagos State Government has commenced the rehabilitation of OdoIya-Alaro Bridge on the ever-busy Ikorodu-Lagos Road in Kosofe Local Council of the state.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, while fielding questions from journalists, yesterday, after the inspection of the ongoing works on the expansion joints of the bridge by government officials from the Office of Infrastructure, lamented that the structural integrity of the bridge had been compromised by frequent vandalism of the bridge by urchins.

He said that the expansion joints on this location had gone through theft, road abuse, and stealing by urchins. Daramola promised that the state government would continue routine maintenance works on pedestrian and vehicular bridges while tasking Lagosians to take full responsibility of various infrastructures in the state.

According to him, the state government is responsive and would leave no stone unturned in rehabilitating the bridge as quickly as possible,as well as reaffirming the state’s commitment towards infrastructure upgrade. He, therefore, harped on the need for motorists and Lagos residents to be patient during the 90 days closure of the bridge for repairs.

Also speaking, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, appealed to residents to join hands with the government to maintain infrastructure and expose miscreants behind vandalism of public facilities in the state.
