In the wake of a deadly attack that claimed the lives of 37 people in Karim-Lamido Local Government Council of Taraba State, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel S. Bretet, has called on community leaders to encourage residents to remain in safe areas and cooperate with security agencies.

The appeal was made in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, James Leshen, following an on-the-spot assessment visit to the affected communities.

The area was thrown into mourning last Saturday after the reported massacre allegedly carried out by suspected herders.

Bretet, who condemned the attack in strong terms, announced an immediate review of the security structure in the area and deployed additional personnel to restore confidence and stability.

He stressed the need for peace and unity, urging leaders to help de-escalate tensions within the community.

“Our goal is to ensure peace is restored. We must remain lawful, and those found instigating unrest or violence will face the full weight of the law,” Bretet warned.

Reaffirming the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, the Commissioner assured residents that adequate measures have been put in place to return normalcy to the affected communities.
