Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested 17 suspects after foiling cult initiation process at Ibogun Shomi area of Ifo Local Council.

 

Spokesperson of Ogun Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.

 

The suspects are: Ayankunle Isaiah, 24; Oluyemi Michael, 25; Olsesi Abayomi, 23; Bello David, 21; Adams Yusuf, 21; Temitope Adesoji, 28; Ashipa Sodiq, 30; Kolade Oluwaseun, 30; William Michael, 21; Hussain Samuel, 26.

 

Others include : Oyewole Basit, 20; Samuel Olusegun, 20; Ifadire Olamilekan, 20; Daniel Chigozie,18; Seyi Ridwan, 24; Achika Waliu, 28; Ridwan Odukoya, 22.

 

“On 31st July, 2026, at about 0240hrs, acting on credible intelligence that suspected cultists had gathered at Ibogun Shomi area for an alleged initiation, a combined team of Anti-Robbery, Surveillance and Patrol personnel, raided the location and arrested seventeen (17) suspects” Babaseyi said.

 

He said that one locally fabricated short gun and one axe were recovered at the scene.

 

The Police Spokesperson said that the suspects and exhibits will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and further necessary action.

 

Similarly, Operatives of the Iperu Division have rescued a 29-year-old man, Sotonwa Oluwamayo who was abducted along Ogere Road, Orisunmibare, Iperu-Remo.

 

Babaseyi said that the rescue followed a disress call received at the division on July 17, 2026 at about 20:15 hrs concerning the abduction.

 

He said that upon the receipt of the information, the Police personnel immediately mobilised with operatives of Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety Corps(So-Safe) and Amotekun and embarked on a coordinated search of the surrounding forest.

 

“The pressure from the joint team forced the abductors to flee, leading to the rescue of the victim less than 24 hours after the abduction was reported.

 

“The victim, who sustained an injury during the incident, was taken for medical attention and is responding to treatment. Efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing suspects.” The police Spokesperson said.

 

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the personel for their prompt response and operational alertness, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols and rapid response.

 

Ojajuni urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and continue providing timely, credible information to the Police.
