Team Ogun athletes protest unpaid allowances, block games village

Athletes representing Team Ogun at the ongoing National Sports Festival have staged a protest over the non-payment of their allowances, effectively blocking the entrance of the Games Village located at Babcock University.

The demonstration, which began early this morning, has disrupted the movement of athletes and officials scheduled to depart for events at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto and the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, Abeokuta.

Most affected are the cycling athletes, whose events were slated to begin at 8:00 a.m.

The blockade has led to a delay in logistics and movement, raising concerns about the overall schedule of the day’s competitions.

Attempts to reach the Ogun State Commissioner for Sports for comments on the situation were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

However, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Ogun State Governor, Kayode, told The Guardian that payment to the protesting athletes has commenced.”
